2003 Desmond Custom Guitar
Occasionally, I find myself making an extraordinarily unique instrument.
This beautiful guitar was completed and sold in 2003.
The sound of this guitar is incredible! It is
a very open sounding and sensitive guitar, similar to many of Jose
Romanillos guitars. The trebles are clear and bright, and the mid
range and bass are substantial.
The details and craftsmanship are exquisite!
The back and sides are made from very old and figured Brazilian
Rosewood. The top is aged German Spruce with a bracing system of
"Torres", incorporating an "open harmonic bar",
which allows the top to vibrate more freely, thus creating a more
"open" sounding instrument.
The tuning machines are handmade from David Rodgers
(the best in the world) with Mother of Pearl buttons. This guitar
is decorated with much detailed marquetry and Mother of Pearl. The
purflings are Brazilian Rosewood bordered by Holly on both sides
and are mitered back into each other all around the sides and back
edges of the guitar.
The head and heel cap are encrusted with Mother
of Pearl as is the rosette. The rosette was inspired from the best
work of Antonio Torres. The action on this guitar is medium and
the guitar is very easy to play. The top is finished with French
Polish and the rest of the guitar is finished with Oil Varnish hand
rubbed to a high gloss.
The instrument comes in a double arched hardshell
case. This is a "very special" instrument for a very demanding
guitarist. It took almost one year to construct! I am posting this
instrument 8/18/03.
